Lab Coats Protect Clothing from Accidents
Lab coats are white indoor uniforms worn by medical or laboratory personnel over their street clothes to protect them from accidental spills. The coat is considered to be part of the uniform of certain medical personnel such as physicians and lab techs. Most are made from lightweight cotton, linen or polyester blend. The majority of them are white, but there are women’s jackets available in pastel colors. Uniforms for women are available from blazer length to knee length. The sleeves are three-quarter length or wrist length. Special coats worn in a laboratory are made from heavier cotton to absorb acid spills and have long sleeves that button to protect the arms from chemical accidents. Another name for a lab coat is “white coat.”
